Olivet’s Master of Education degree (MECI) combines solid educational theory with practical implementation strategies for such important concepts as learning styles, multiple intelligences, parental involvement, inclusion, classroom management, and conflict resolution.
This graduate curriculum is based on a proven distance-learning model that promotes collaborative learning, provides access to leaders in education, and features a convenient “study when-you-want, where-you-want format.” This program, like all Olivet programs for teachers, focuses on helping teachers to help their learners.
The MECI program is a 30-semester credit hour graduate program designed for delivery in Olivet Nazarene University’s educational region. In utilizing a distance delivery format, the program’s objective is to bring Olivet Nazarene University to constituents throughout its educational region.
The program is planned to promote a high quality graduate education experience in the convenience of home or school without required campus visits. Every aspect of the program was calculated with the working professional in mind.
Courses in the MECI are sequential. The course content builds upon previous courses to ensure that teachers are exposed to a comprehensive curriculum that is relevant to current practice. Teachers implement ideas and put theory into practice in the classroom environment.
Course content is presented through multiple learning modalities. Because of the nontraditional nature of this program, course work activities and time spent for each varies from traditional classroom-based instruction. Specialized study guides direct the application of concepts presented in the course texts, required readings, and video lessons. Teachers prepare a professional portfolio documenting their experiences, write a comprehensive integrated paper, and complete an applied research project.
Teachers receive all materials needed to complete the course. Materials include one or more texts, required readings, a study guide, and approximately 15 instructional video segments. Featured in each video segment are presentations and interviews with nationally-known educational experts and clinical specialists on the topics covered.
Throughout the video segments, filmed in kindergarten through high school classrooms, are educators who demonstrate the concepts presented. The video presentations are a key component of the course content, and they are viewed and discussed within the collaborative learning team. |
