Reading Endorsement
The Master of Arts in Education: Reading Specialist (Type 10) and the
Reading Teacher Endorsement programs are designed to assist
practicing teachers in becoming specialists in the area of reading.
Through this program, teachers learn how to construct assessment,
curriculum and instructional approaches to improve pre-kindergarten
through 12th grade reading literacy.
Study strategies for improving reading comprehension, assessment and
diagnosis of reading difficulties, and test analysis/interpretation.
Focus on diverse learning needs and linguistic differences, as well
as current technology that facilitates effective reading and writing
instruction for learners of different ages, ability levels and
ethnic backgrounds.
Three 15-clock-hour clinical practicum experiences, plus a
25-clock-hour creative project/practicum are required.
Learners must successfully pass the Illinois Basic Skills Test, the
Illinois Content Area Test, and the Illinois Assessment of
Professional Teaching Test.
